Picking Up the Pieces: The Making of the Witness Blanket

“My role as an artist is to bear witness. The pieces themselves are witnesses. The people giving us the pieces are witnesses, and at some level we all are- or we should all be – witnesses.” – Casey Newman

In honour of Truth and Reconciliation day we would like to share the documentary film “Picking Up the Pieces: The Making of the Witness Blanket” brought to you by the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.

The Witness Blanket is a large art installation made up of hundreds of reclaimed items from residential schools, churches, government buildings and traditional and cultural structures across Canada.

Every object has its own story. Please join us as we learn more about the witness blanket and as we listen to stories from indigenous voices all across Canada.
